Dictation

Tips for Best Results

Get the most out of Vorn Voice dictation with these practical tips.

Speak clearly at a normal pace

You do not need to speak slowly or exaggerate. Speak at your normal conversational pace. The transcription models are trained on natural speech.

Use a decent microphone

A built-in laptop microphone works, but a headset or external microphone reduces background noise and improves accuracy. This matters most with local models.

Minimize background noise

Local models are sensitive to background sounds. If you are in a noisy environment, try using cloud transcription or switching the speech cleanup setting to aggressive mode.

Try different models

If accuracy is not great with the default model, try a larger one. Vorn Pro and Vorn Max are more accurate but slower and use more disk space. See Choosing a model for a comparison.

Adjust audio timing

If the beginning or end of your speech gets cut off, increase the pre-roll or post-roll values in audio settings. The defaults (350ms pre-roll, 80ms post-roll) work for most people, but you can tune them if needed. See Audio settings.

Use the dictionary for names and terms

If Vorn Voice consistently gets a word wrong (a name, technical term, or abbreviation), add it to the dictionary. The dictionary replaces specific words in the transcript. See Dictionary.
