Dictation

Auto-Paste and Clipboard

How Vorn Voice outputs transcribed text — auto-paste or clipboard copy.

After transcription, Vorn Voice needs to put the text somewhere. There are two output modes.

Auto-paste

When auto-paste is enabled, Vorn Voice automatically inserts the transcribed text into whatever app you were using. It simulates a paste action so the text appears at your cursor position.

Auto-paste requires Accessibility permission on macOS. Without it, the app falls back to copying to the clipboard.

Clipboard copy

If auto-paste is disabled (or if the permission is not granted), Vorn Voice copies the transcribed text to your clipboard. You can then paste it manually with Command+V or Ctrl+V.

Clipboard restore

When auto-paste is enabled, Vorn Voice temporarily uses your clipboard to insert text. The Restore clipboard setting (on by default) saves your previous clipboard contents and puts them back after the paste completes.

This means auto-paste will not overwrite whatever you had copied before dictating.

Changing the output mode

Open settings and look for the Clipboard section:

  • Auto-paste — Toggle on to automatically insert text, off to copy to clipboard.
  • Restore clipboard — Toggle on to restore previous clipboard contents after auto-paste.
