First-Time Setup
Walk through the onboarding steps when you first open Vorn Voice.
When you launch Vorn Voice for the first time, the app guides you through a few setup steps.
Step 1: Sign in
Enter the email address associated with your Vorn account. You will receive a six-digit code to verify your identity. This is the same email you used at checkout or beta enrollment.
If you do not have an account yet, signing in will create one.
Step 2: Choose a transcription model
Pick the model that will convert your speech to text. Vorn Voice includes local models that run entirely on your device. You can also select cloud transcription if you need additional language support.
Vorn Standard (based on Moonshine Base) is the default and works well for most people. See Choosing a model for a detailed comparison.
The selected model will download automatically if it is not already installed.
Step 3: Grant permissions
Vorn Voice needs access to your microphone to capture audio. On macOS, you will also be prompted for Accessibility permission if you want auto-paste (inserting text directly into the active app).
- Microphone — Required on all platforms. The system will prompt you to allow access.
- Accessibility (macOS only) — Required for auto-paste. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility and enable Vorn Voice.
See Permissions if you need help granting access.
Step 4: Pick your hotkey
Choose the keyboard shortcut that starts dictation. The default is:
| Platform | Default shortcut |
|---|---|
| macOS | Shift + Command + Y |
| Windows | Ctrl + Shift + Y |
| Linux | Ctrl + Shift + Y |
You can capture a custom shortcut during onboarding or change it later in settings.
Step 5: Test dictation
The final step runs a quick verification. Press your hotkey, say something, and release. If the transcription appears, you are all set.
After onboarding, the app runs in the background and listens for your hotkey. A small overlay appears when you start dictating.
